Cheltenham Festival Dossier

The Cheltenham Festival is a four-day event that takes place between Tuesday March 16th and Friday March 19th. It’s the highlight of the UK racing calendar, with the top National Hunt horses (ie those that go over jumps) featuring at some point during the week.

The races are all highly competitive and this makes it tough for customers to pick winners. There are very few ‘bankers’ at the Festival, especially with horses being required to jump well in order to win. Cheltenham’s course is also unique by virtue of having a steep hill at the end of the races which tires horses out.

On a daily basis, at least four of the races at Cheltenham will be shown on Channel 4. That means that the Channel 4/1 offer really comes into its own, especially as most of the winners are returned at odds of 4/1 or bigger. It’s very rare for a horse to be odds-on in any of the races and you are guaranteed some bigger price winners.

Best Odds Guaranteed is also a great offer to have, with bet365 pretty much the first bookie to offer this for ALL races in the UK and Ireland. Punters like the feeling of having taken a price and knowing that they have everything to gain if the SP is bigger and nothing to lose if the horse goes off at shorter odds (this means that they got themselves a value price in the first place).

In terms of search, many people will be searching for “Cheltenham Gold Cup” and it’s this showcase race on the Friday that tends to grab many headlines. It’s the biggest race in terms of prize money and features two horses from the same stable at the top of the market. Kauto Star has won the race on two occasions and will be favourite, although Denman won the race in 2008 and has the potential to upstage his older stable-mate.

What makes Cheltenham better than the Grand National is that it encourages repetitive betting, rather than a one-off gamble. Punters will regularly visit bet365 to bet on the action, while it’s worth noting that bet365 will be streaming EVERY race from the Festival. Customers only need to place a 1 bet on any race and they will have access to the live pictures (this is not exclusive).
