Yahoo! has launched Yahoo Poker, a real money online poker room by partnering with St. Minver Ltd., the Gibraltar-based white-label online gaming group and running on the International Poker Network (IPN), owned and operated by software provider Boss Media AB of Sweden.

Players resident in the USA are not currently accepted, but most other countries can register and play for real money. Yahoo has initially targeted the European poker market.

A proposed U.S. bill to legalize internet gambling could open a $7 billion betting window for venture capitalists and social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, an industry analyst said.

The bill, proposed earlier this week by Barney Frank, the powerful chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives’ financial services committee, could take years to become law—if at all—but its passage would likely unleash a frenzy of investment and acquisitions.

A mix-up at the Washington State legislature earlier this month saw media reporting on the passage of an amendment to anti-online gambling regulations, when in fact lawmakers had okayed a motor vehicle registration bill, reports Casino City Times.

HB 1243 is an effort by U.S. Rep. Chris to legalize recreational online gambling in private residences and soften its Class C felony status in the state.
