Tough Regulations Needed to Curb Illegal Online Gambling

Seven months after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act became law, the Treasury Department has yet to draft the rules for enforcement.

Under the law, whenever credit cards or other financial instruments are used to gamble on the Internet, the transactions are blocked. But financial institutions need to know which transactions to block. This is where rules and regulations come in.

Attempts to influence the Treasury Department to write strong regulations have failed. This week, Focus on the Family is sending a letter to President Bush, urging him to direct the Treasury Department to take powerful action.
