As the event evolved from a fraternal gathering of Texas road gamblers into the undisputed world championship of poker, the questions grew more forward-looking. When will the size of the field surpass 100? 1982. Who will be the first player to win after qualifying via a satellite? Tom McEvoy in 1983. Who will be the first champion to win a million dollars? Brad Daugherty in 1991.
