Roy Jones Jr. vs. Felix Trinidad
Two of the best pugilists in the world are set to square off at the grandest stage of all: Madison Square Garden. Saturday night Roy Jones Jr. (51-4-0, 38 KOs) will enter the ring against Felix Trinidad (42-2-0, 35 KOs) for a highly-anticipated, Don King produced, tilt between two of boxing’s biggest stars – of the 90s. Fighting at 170 lbs. both Jones and Trinidad will be challenged to fight at a level like they did when they were at the top of their game, but the HBO-broadcast fight could still be one for the ages.
UFC 80: Rapid Fire
It’s so surprise that there’ll be a bunch of tough guys in Newcastle, England fighting this Saturday night, but what is surprising is that it’s not at a soccer game. UFC 80: Rapid Fire comes to us live from the other side of the Atlantic Former TUF winner Joe Stevenson is stepping up to the big leagues and on Saturday will find himself going knuckle-to-knuckle with former UFC lightweight champ, B.J. Penn. The two other key fights include Gabriel Gonzaga taking on Fabricio Werdum and Kendall Grove going at it with Jorge Rivera.
2008 Sprint Cup Championship
Who needs right-hand turns? Not NASCAR, that’s for sure. Sure, there’s the occasional road course where the good ol’ boys occasionally have to turn right, but for the most part they’re spending the entire summer making left turns only. The Sprint Cup Championship, which was formerly known as the Nextel Cup, is up for grabs again and it’s no surprise who the favorites are. Jimmie Johnson (+325) and Jeff Gordon (+400) are in a class all their own as far as stock car racing goes. But Dale Jr.’s got a new car and new crew, Matt Kenseth got close last season and the expectations are through the roof for Juan Pablo Montoya’s second season on the circuit.
