Avid poker players from around the world joined in the online poker action in the opening event of Titan Poker‘s 14-day, $4,15 Million Guaranteed European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP III), which kicked off on November 24. A total of 1,420 players participated in the opening No Limit Hold’em Tournament, with player IamBetterThanThou taking first prize of $59,640 and the coveted ECOOP bracelet.

Total prize money at the tournament was $284,000, well above the $250,000 guaranteed by Titan Poker and the iPoker Network.

Qualifying satellite tournaments for the ECOOP III events are being staged daily at Titan Poker. The ECOOP III tournaments offer a wide variety of poker games, including Texas No Limit Hold’em, Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo Poker Buy-in amounts vary to meet every player’s budget.

The series culminates with a $1,500,000 Guaranteed Prize Main Event on December 7.

Titan Poker’s first ECOOP series was staged last December and players competed over ten days for their share of $2,500,000 in cash prizes. In May this year, ECOOP II was staged with a grand total of $3,600,000 in guaranteed prizes at the ten nights of tournaments.

The ECOOP III series has been extended to fourteen days with the larger prize pool in order to give Titan Poker players more opportunities to showcase their poker skill and play for huge cash rewards.

The news has brought a fresh wave of activity to Titan Poker’s Sit ‘N’ Go tables. “As to be expected, the number of Sit ‘N’ Go tournament participants rises with the Jackpot size, but the number of tournaments we have run so far this week has already hit record levels. In addition to Rio Sit ‘N’ Go, Titan Poker offers other Progressive Jackpot Sit ‘N’Go’s, including Fort Knox $50,000 and Maui $15,000 Sit ‘N’Go tournaments. This week’s unclaimed Fort Knox Jackpot stands at $90,000, while the Maui Jackpot has reached $45,000.

Asian Poker Tour (APT) ambassador JC Tran made a fantastic start on his debut in the PartyPoker Premier League, winning the first heat to pick up a maximum 10 points and $20,000. Tran, who is also representing Team PKR in the elite tournament, overcame WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate heads-up to take the heat down. Eastgate was making his first appearance since his Main Event win.

The heads-up between Tran and the $9 million world champion Eastgate was grueling but after a number of swings it was Tran who triumphed. Eastgate started the heads-up with the advantage, holding $395,000 to Tran’s $205,000, but there was to be no repeat of Eastgate’s clinical heads-up destruction of Ivan Demidov at the WSOP Main Event final table as Tran brought the world champion down to earth with a bang. The final hand saw Eastgate push all-in with Q3 off-suit with JC instantly calling with AK off-suit. The board failed to bring anything for either player.

Tran was cheered on by his fellow Asian Poker Tour ambassadors Quinn Do and Nam Le at the event in London as he bested the first six seater heat that also included David ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, Annette Obrestad, Roland de Wolfe and Premier League II winner Andy Black. Tran, Quinn Do and Nam Le are the core of the APT’s ‘Poker Pack,’ a new elite team that will represent the APT on the world circuit.

Tran said, “It has been a fantastic start but there is a long way to go. It is so good to get the first win under the belt. I love the format of the Premier League and am excited about what is going to come.”

For the first time the Everest Poker European Cup (EPEC) Finale of 200 poker players from all over Europe will be held on the stunning Italian island of Sardinia.

Everest Poker players on the whole are tearing up the EPT circuit. Sponsored player Cristiano Blanco managed a 2nd place at an EPT event in Dortmund in 2007, which to date remains the best placing ever for an Italian player at an EPT event.

At EPT Warsaw, Italian Dario Minieri was blocked from matching Blanco’s top finish by Behling. Minieri finished 3rd.

Speaking to Everest Poker’s Olaf Schimpf, who was with the German throughout the tournament, Behling commented, “If someone would have told me before the tournament that I would finish 2nd, I would have signed up for that immediately — now, of course, I am a little disappointed that the trophy was so close!”
