The European Commission asked French government to modify its draft law on online gambling. French law prohibited all foreign online gaming activities on French market, and EU said that the draft law violated article 49 of the EU treaty about the free provision of services. NETeller agrees to forfeit $136-million

Neteller has agreed to forfeit $136 million and admit that it participated in promoting online gambling business.

The company also has agreed to return $94 million, which were held in the accounts of U.S. customers. The government says that nearly $5,1 billion in transactions were processed by the company in the first half of 2006 involved online gambling, and the most revenue was from US customers.

EU gave 60 days France and Sweden to remove their gambling restrictions

France and Sweden were asked by the European Commission (EC) to remove their gambling monopolies, which restrict foreign gambling companies to enter their market.

The EC has warned Sweden and France that they have 60 days that to open their gambling market for other countries and remove their monopolies. If they don’t do this they will be referred to the European Court of Justice.
