On Friday, May 30, 2008, Betsson will open the doors of its first betting shop in Sweden, marking a challenge to the Swedish gaming monopoly. The aim of Betsson’s new endeavour is to build closer relations with its players and offer more gaming opportunities and greater freedom of choice.
Today, many players in Sweden frequently play at Svenska Spel’s and ATG’s representative outlets. Betsson’s new betting shop offers something completely different. Here, players will be given an attractive alternative with better odds. In Betsson’s shop players will have the opportunity to bet on sports games and live games, get tips from experts, see live matches on TV and socialize with other sports enthusiasts in a relaxing environment. aks_copyr

“We are taking this opportunity to challenge the Swedish gaming monopoly as we see betting shops as an interesting development of our business. Betting shops complement our online offering and our aim is to create more freedom of choice for our players,” said Pontus Lindwall, CEO, Betsson.

In recent years, legal developments within the EU have moved quickly and Betsson’s understanding is that the legal situation in Sweden is more open than many believe. “EU laws provide support for this endeavour. There is no longer any reason for us to wait for a political process that is hardly moving forward. We want to drive development of the gaming market for the benefit of players. I am confident that the monopoly’s retail outlets will experience some tough competition going forward,” said Lindwall. Betsson’s new betting shop is located at Götgatan 37 in Stockholm and will open on May 30, 2008, at 12:00 noon.

The European Commission asked French government to modify its draft law on online gambling. French law prohibited all foreign online gaming activities on French market, and EU said that the draft law violated article 49 of the EU treaty about the free provision of services. So French government would have to modify its law until August,24. And now France is preparing to bow to pressure from Brussels and agree to a partial liberalisation of its state-run betting monopolies. Paris informed that it was willing to legalize online gambling. aks_copyr

The French market would give large companies such as Sportingbet a toehold in the €25 billion (£17.4 billion) annual Gallic gambling market.

Frank is an experienced politician who wants to legalize and regulate online gambling. He made a lot of efforts that to improve the situation after entering of Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). His first step was introducing of the bill HR2046 Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA). And now everybody asks what the next steps of Frank. aks_copyr

The Congressman has already attracted 22 politicians to sponsor his bill, some of them initially voted for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which Frank wants to replace by licensing, regulating and taxing online gambling.

Frank told nothing about his next steps, he only said that he would continue to promote his bill and try to attract more politicians to support this bill.

His press aide Steve Adamske repeated Frank’s tactics again and told that the legislation of online gambling will be significantly improved if American voters contact their representatives and tell them they would like to see the bill pass. As Steve Adamske said that the success of the bill depends on Americans, and the more support they have the better success they’ll have.

Please, contact your representative and let him know your position. The contact details of all representatives you may find on Casinomeister.com.
